Angelo ‘Magnifico’ VenNatchi is the greatest footballer in Italy’s history. He is also a cheating bastard to wife Gretta, who he deserted when their child Vincenzo was born. As Vincenzo goes through childhood, he learns how ‘amazing’ his father is at football, and how he is a worshipped national hero. To his mother’s dismay, all Vincenzo wants, is to win his father’s love. He trains and practices at soccer to impress his father, but Angelo rejects him. In his adolescence, Vincenzo’s admiration for Angelo turns to hateful motivation to play against his father and beat him. At 12, despite his age, Vincenzo’s skills are so irresistible, that he is allowed to play for a rival team to his father’s team. The rivalry becomes a national obsession, culminating in the national championship final game… ‘billed’ as Magnifico Versus Bambino Magnifico. At the penultimate moment in the game, one of them suffers a career ending injury.
